A wholesale wallet manufacturer is a factory that produces wallets for retailers, brands, and importers at volume pricing, typically with minimum order quantities starting at 50 pieces per style.
Why buying direct from the factory changes your numbers
Most wallets under a buyer’s brand travel through two or three hands before reaching the customer, each step adding a margin. Somebody sources the leather, somebody cuts the panels, somebody assembles them, and a trading company sits in the middle protecting its own margin. Each layer adds 10 to 30 percent and removes your visibility of the line.
A trading company is genuinely useful when you are ordering two container loads and we say so plainly. The difference shows up the moment you want something specific.
A wallet factory direct arrangement means you buy directly from the production facility, bypassing agents, trading companies, and B2B marketplaces — cutting two to three layers of margin.
| Decision factor | Direct from factory | Trading company | B2B marketplace |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price formation | You see the actual material and labour build-up | Quoted price contains a 10 to 30 percent margin | Listing price, plus platform and service fees |
| Who makes the change you ask for | The people sewing the wallet | Relayed by a third party, usually slowly | Not possible on stock listings |
| Quality control | Inline checks plus your own pre-shipment inspection | Reliance on whatever documentation arrives | None until the goods reach you |
| Custom design | Full OEM and ODM, tooling included | Only what the supplier already offers | Stock designs only |
| Repeat order timing | Known capacity, known cut dates | Depends on their supplier that quarter | None guaranteed |
Our position is narrow but useful: a factory in Guangzhou’s Leather Capital, we have exported continuously since 2008, and we pass BSCI and SEDEX audits so the retailers you sell into will not ask for a supplier code you cannot produce. Everything below comes out of that same operation: no affiliate factories, no brokered quotes.
Materials and wallet styles we manufacture
For any wholesale leather wallet manufacturer brief, material choice decides your cost and return rate. We work across four material families and flag a brief that does not match a budget.
| Material | Indicative FOB | Character | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Full-grain cowhide | $7 to $14 | Keeps the hide’s natural grain and top surface; marks improve rather than peel with age | Heritage and premium retail |
| Nappa sheepskin | $5 to $10 | Very soft hand feel, light, less scratch resistant than cowhide | Mid-range gift and occasion |
| Top-grain cowhide | $6 to $11 | Sanded and corrected for an even surface; consistent colour across panels | Corporate and uniform programmes |
| Split leather | $3 to $6 | Genuine leather fibre with a coated or corrected face | Entry genuine leather lines |
| PU leather | $2 to $6 | Coated polyurethane, the most stable colour and the easiest to print on | Volume retail and gifting |
| Recycled PU | $2 to $6 | Post-consumer PU feedstock; increasingly requested by EU buyers | Brands with a circularity claim |
| Vegan microfibre | $3 to $7 | Microfibre suede-style finish, entirely animal-free | Cruelty-free positioning |
| Canvas, nylon, recycled polyester | $2 to $5 | Woven, washable, light; GSM drives both price and hand feel | Travel, outdoor and casual |
| Tyvek | $1.50 to $4 | Tear-resistant paper-like sheet, water resistant | Events, loyalty and festival use |

Wallet constructions
Tooling covers bifolds, trifolds, long wallets, cardholders, money clips, coin purses, zip-around, travel wallets with passport sleeves, ladies clutch, card cases and AirTag or Find My pockets. A new die for your own design is quoted separately; the die is yours once the order pays off.
Colour, hardware and packaging
Colour matched against a physical swatch you approve — the binding standard. Hardware: antique brass, matte black, gunmetal, nickel, gold plate, rose gold, custom plating above 1,000 pieces. Packaging: OPP, polybag, printed paper sleeve, dust bag, rigid gift box and printed mailer.
The question we ask before quoting
Where will the wallet be worn? A pocket wallet and a wedding wallet want different edge paint, thread tension and hardware weight from the same base design. Tell us the end use up front.
Tiered Pricing Wallet Wholesale — MOQ & Realistic Lead Times
Minimum order quantity is where most price disputes start — and tiered pricing for wholesale wallets only works if you understand what moves each tier. The number is arithmetic, not factory policy: every order carries set-up work somebody has to pay for, and MOQ is the quantity that makes that work pay for itself.
Tiered pricing means the per-unit price drops as volume rises, because fixed setup (tooling, screen burning, sampling) amortises.
| Order type | Minimum per style | What you supply | Typical extra |
|---|---|---|---|
| Private label | 50 pieces | Brand name, logo and packaging artwork | Interior tag and lining print only |
| ODM | 100 pieces | Colour preference, logo and hardware choice | Usually no tooling charge |
| OEM, full custom | 200 pieces | Complete tech pack with measurements | Tooling $300 to $800 |
| OEM, complex design | 300 pieces | Tech pack plus physical reference sample | Tooling plus longer sample stage |
| Mixed styles | 50 pieces per style | Same artwork brief across the range | Keeps first-run risk down |
Three things push MOQ up most in tiered pricing wallet wholesale contracts. Multi-colour orders tie you to dye-lot minimums (six colours at 50 each is harder than one colour at 300). Metal hardware ties you to plating-house minimums. Magnetic clasps or RFID layers add fixed-capacity stations.
Wholesale Wallet Supplier Volume Tiers — What Each Price Level Means
Our tiered prices reflect repeat-run invoices, not a promotional opening price.
| Order volume | PU / recycled PU | Nappa sheepskin | Full-grain cowhide |
|---|---|---|---|
| 50 to 299 pieces | $4.50 to $7.00 | $7.50 to $12.00 | $10.00 to $16.00 |
| 300 to 999 pieces | $3.50 to $5.50 | $6.00 to $9.50 | $8.00 to $13.00 |
| 1,000 to 4,999 pieces | $2.80 to $4.50 | $5.00 to $8.00 | $7.00 to $11.00 |
| 5,000 pieces and above | Quoted per project | Quoted per project | Quoted per project |
The drop from tier one to tier two is usually 18 to 25 percent: leather cheaper per square foot, setup amortises, and the line settles once operators are in rhythm.
Costs buyers forget to budget for
- Tooling and dies, $300 to $800. Yours once the order is paid, reusable across future runs of the same style.
- Sample rounds, $80 to $200 each. Credited back against your first production order.
- Logo plates and screens, $50 to $150 per colour. Additional colours are additional charges.
- Third-party testing, $200 to $500. REACH for the EU, CPSIA for anything child-adjacent, RFID shielding verification.
- Pre-shipment inspection, $250 to $400. Strongly recommended on your first three orders.
How long it really takes
| Stage | Calendar time | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Sampling, three rounds | 30 to 45 days | Development sample, revision, then a signed golden sample |
| Mass production | 30 to 60 days | Based on a 500 piece baseline for a standard construction |
| Final inspection and packing | 3 to 7 days | AQL 2.5 sampling, then packing to your specification |
| Ocean freight to US west coast | 18 to 28 days | Shenzhen or Hong Kong departure |
| Ocean freight to North Europe | 28 to 40 days | Shenzhen or Hong Kong departure |
| Air freight, any destination | 5 to 8 days | Used mainly for samples and urgent restocks |
A first order therefore runs 60 to 100 days from deposit to warehouse (Chinese New Year removes three weeks; September to November is busiest). Tell us your fixed launch date at quote stage.
OEM, ODM and private label services
Three ways to order custom wallets from us. The difference is development effort, not product quality — the same QC path applies to OEM, ODM and private label.
An OEM wallet manufacturer builds a wallet to your exact specification: you supply the tech pack, the factory executes production, and you own the design after.
OEM Wallet Manufacturer — You Design, We Manufacture
You supply a tech pack or physical sample; pattern engineers review it, you mark up a development sample, we revise, and once the golden sample is signed the batch is measured against that physical object. Longest lead time, highest MOQ, only route for a wallet nobody else can buy.
ODM Wallet — Our Design, Your Brand
Every ODM wallet ships from tooling we already hold. You choose shell, lining, thread, hardware and logo. development cost is near zero and lead time compresses by two to three weeks. Fits a brand entering the category or a retailer testing the waters.
Private Label Wallet Wholesale — Your Brand on Our Build
Simplest route. A private label run is the entry point: you supply artwork, we produce with your name on interior tag, lining stamp and packaging. Lowest MOQ, fastest to market, no development fee. Our private label wallet wholesale programme is also the simplest way to test a market at low risk. For corporate gifting and distributors this is usually correct, and plenty start here before moving to ODM.
How we control quality
We audit to AQL 2.5 for major defects on every shipment via our team or a third party (SGS, Intertek, Bureau Veritas).
For audit and certification detail, see our factory compliance guide, which explains BSCI, SEDEX and SMETA differences without the sales pitch.
The seven step order workflow
Most first orders fail at step one, when the spec is still a conversation. As a wallet manufacturer with samples at every stage, we run this sequence on every project and would run it on our own money.
A golden sample (or gold seal sample) is the pre-production wallet that both buyer and factory sign off on as the quality benchmark for the entire production run.
Inquiry and tech pack
You send the spec, quantity and budget; we return a feasibility check and indicative FOB within one working day, or tell you the numbers don’t work at that budget.
Material and colour approval
Swatches couriered for physical sign-off. Screen approval doesn’t predict full-grain in daylight, so we push for the physical swatch. Once signed, it becomes the colour standard.
First development sample
Seven to ten days. Check dimensions, gusset depth, card capacity, edge paint and stitch density against the tech pack. Photograph questionable points the same day.
Revisions and the golden sample
Built to your marked-up notes, then signed, dated and filed. Every judgement call in production resolves in favour of the golden sample.
Pre-production sign-off
One sample built with production materials by production operators, inspected by you, approved in writing. That approval is the quality baseline and the trigger for the 30 percent deposit.
Mass production with inline QC
30 to 60 days for a 500-piece baseline. Photos go out at every checkpoint, so the buyer doesn’t chase updates.
Inspection, packing and shipment
AQL 2.5 final inspection, packing to spec, container loading and the full document set: commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin and BSCI or test reports. See FOB versus EXW versus CIF versus DDP before picking terms.
Want to see how the tech pack should look? Our handbag tech pack template shows every field, and from sample to mass production covers what happens to a revision once it arrives.
Who buys wholesale wallets, and what each of them needs
Roughly a third of our volume comes from independent retail, a third from e-commerce sellers, the rest from corporate gifting and importers. As a wholesale wallet supplier we also supply general wallet brands for resale programs — see our full wallet suppliers collection. Their priorities differ, and quoting them the same way is how a relationship ends up unsatisfied.
Independent boutiques and small retailers
50 to 200 pieces, usually private label. They sell on margin, care about hand feel and boutique-window packaging.
Amazon FBA and e-commerce brands
300+ pieces, with FNSKU labels and polybag compliance.
Corporate gifting and promotional buyers
50 to 100 pieces per design, several designs per event. Logo quality and gift-box presentation outrank unit price.
Fashion brands adding small leather goods
100 to 1,000 pieces to extend a handbag line.
Importers and distributors
1,000+ pieces, FOB, several SKUs in one container.
Online resellers and dropshippers
From 50 pieces, low MOQ, fast reorders; private label suits them best.
Whichever describes you, our guide to low versus high minimum order quantities covers where the real cost difference sits, and mixing styles within one MOQ explains how a mixed order is costed.
Wholesale Leather Wallet Manufacturer Cost — Landed Cost & Hidden Fees
The FOB number is the easiest to quote and the least useful to plan with. A wallet at $8.40 FOB does not land at $8.40. Here is the full build-up for a typical 300 piece order to the US west coast.
| Cost line | Per unit | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| FOB factory price | $8.40 | Leather wallet, 300 piece tier |
| Inland haulage and export handling | $0.30 to $0.80 | Factory to port, already inside the FOB figure for Shenzhen |
| Ocean freight | $0.55 to $2.00 | LCL rates at this volume, wide spread by season |
| Marine insurance | $0.03 to $0.09 | Roughly 0.3 to 1 percent of cargo value |
| Import duty | 0.6 to 1.0 | Rate depends on the HTS classification and fabric content |
| Customs brokerage and port fees | $0.10 to $0.35 | ISF filing, MPF, terminal handling |
| Drayage to your warehouse | $0.30 to $0.90 | Highest in the US during peak season |
| Indicative landed total | $10.30 to $13.60 | Before your own fulfilment and retail margin |
Duty follows HTS classification: a leather wallet attracts 3.4 percent into the US, a coated-fabric wallet 7.5 percent, the EU 3 percent on most lanes. Our HS code guide for handbags and wallets walks through the classification, and how to reduce tariffs legally on imported bags covers the fabric-content levers.
The first order carries set-up costs that never reappear on a reorder. Spread across 300 pieces:
| Item | Amount | Per unit at 300 |
|---|---|---|
| Goods, 300 units at $8.40 FOB | $2,520 | $8.40 |
| Tooling and dies | $500 | $1.67 |
| Sample development, three rounds | $300 | $1.00 |
| Logo plate setup | $150 | $0.50 |
| Samples couriered | $200 | $0.67 |
| Total cash committed | $3,670 | $12.23 |
Reorder the identical wallet at 1,000 units and the tooling and sample lines disappear from your unit cost: the strongest argument for getting the specification right at sample round one.
Shipping, packaging and import compliance
For custom logo wallet wholesale orders, packaging and documentation are where most surprises live. Wallets travel well and rarely cause freight problems, which is one reason they make a sensible first category for a new importer. The complications are paperwork, not cargo.
| Packaging | Best for | Added cost |
|---|---|---|
| OPP bag | Bulk retail, promotional distribution | Included |
| Polybag with hang tab and barcode | Marketplace and hanging display | +$0.15 |
| Paper sleeve with printed insert | Mid-market retail, gift sets | +$0.25 to $0.60 |
| Cotton or non-woven dust bag | Premium positioning, leather goods retail | +$0.20 to $0.50 |
| Rigid gift box | Corporate gifting, holiday retail | +$0.50 to $2.00 |
| Printed mailer with insert card | Direct-to-consumer shipping | +$0.80 to $2.50 |
| Printed display carton, bulk packed | Department store and multi-door retail | +$0.15 to $0.40, amortised across the carton |
On shipping terms, EXW Guangzhou saves nothing unless you are consolidating several suppliers. FOB Shenzhen is the default and gives a clean cut-off at our responsibility end. CIF extends to your destination port with insurance, which suits buyers without a forwarder. DDP delivers to your door but means we carry the duty and clearance risk, so it only makes sense if you trust us with classification.
Documents we issue with every shipment
Commercial invoice and packing list, certificate of origin, and on request the BSCI or SEDEX audit report plus REACH or CPSIA test reports for the specific production lot. Every item is batch-traceable. Our guide to reading a factory QC report tells you which lines in the report actually matter and which are boilerplate.
Payment terms are straightforward: samples paid in full upfront, production on 30 percent T/T deposit with balance against the bill of lading copy. L/C at sight is available for repeat customers with an existing trading history. For EU-bound orders check whether your packaging falls under EU packaging rules before committing to a box design — our EU packaging compliance guide covers what changes.
Six mistakes that cost buyers real money
Not textbook mistakes. The ones that show up repeatedly in our order history, described the way we would describe them across the table.
1. Choosing on unit price alone
Why it hurts: A $2 and a $4.40 wallet can carry the same landed cost once freight, duty and returns are added. Thin edge paint and slack stitching do not appear in the quote — they appear later as margin loss.
How to avoid it: Ask every supplier for an identical spec, then compare landed totals — material name in the PO.
2. Treating the first sample as final
Why it hurts: Fewer than three in ten first samples pass inspection unchanged, and most buyers approve them anyway to save a week. The fault that costs $0.40 per unit to fix at sample stage then reaches customers.
How to avoid it: Budget three rounds, inspect against the tech pack line by line.
3. Not checking the design ownership clause
Why it hurts: Without an explicit clause the factory keeps the right to sell your pattern. By the time you spot the near-identical wallet, you have no contractual position.
How to avoid it: Put design ownership and a non-compete on your exclusive style in the purchase contract before the first deposit.
4. Deciding packaging after production
Why it hurts: Packaging changes at the packing stage halt the line, create mixed cartons and delay the vessel. The factory absorbs the disruption by charging extra handling and the delay can cost a sailing.
How to avoid it: Approve packaging artwork at pre-production alongside the wallet.
5. Ordering too many styles for a first run
Why it hurts: Fifty pieces across six styles gives you 300 units but no single style with enough stock to validate. You end up with slow movers and a reorder bill for the one that worked.
How to avoid it: Pick two or three styles and put the volume behind them. Keep the rest of your assortment on a proven construction you can reorder quickly.
6. Having no restock plan
Why it hurts: A best seller with a seven-week lead time stock-outs roughly every quarter. Emergency air freight rescues the gap but costs more than the profit on the units.
How to avoid it: Agree a reorder protocol early — trigger quantity, notice period, fixed price.
Twelve questions buyers ask us most
If your question is not here it is probably specific to your design — send the spec.
Our Factory — A Wholesale Wallet Supplier Since 2008
Dreamway is a wallet manufacturer China-based, exporting since 2008 to 50+ countries. Handbags, small leather goods, backpacks, totes and mulberry silk homeware from a single factory. Core team of thirty.
The factory sits in Shiling Town, Guangzhou — China’s leather cluster — with trim, lining and hardware suppliers a short drive from the sewing floor, which is why we react to a hardware change in three days.
A factory that holds BSCI, SEDEX and SMETA-CVS has been independently verified for labour standards, health and safety, and environmental compliance.
On the public record
The amfori BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative) is the most widely accepted social-compliance framework for consumer-goods factories exporting to the EU. For chemical-safety compliance on leather and PU products we test against the EU REACH regulation and the US CPSIA, with reports available under NDA.
Three people you will actually deal with
Kevin
Fifteen years of pattern making. He is the person who tells you a 2.5 mm gusset will not hold on a wallet meant to sit flat in a back pocket, and what to change instead.
Emily
Twelve years in OEM bag manufacturing, typically running fifteen to twenty-five live projects at once. She owns your delivery date, so she knows the vessel cut-off before you ask about it.
Helen
Thirteen years in handbag quality control. If something is wrong on your shipment, she found it before the carton closed.
Why buyers stay past the first order
- A factory since 2008, exporting to fifty-plus countries, with documented audit trail, not a website claim.
- BSCI, SEDEX and SMETA-CVS audited. Reports shared under NDA before you commit money, not after a delivery problem.
- One supplier for bags and silk. Build a gift set and packaging and colour matching happen in one place.
- MOQ of 200 on bags, 50 on silk. A smaller brand is not forced into an order it cannot place.
- Third-party testing on request through SGS or Intertek for REACH, CPSIA and RFID shielding.

What buyers told us afterwards
The edge paint on our full-grain wallets holds up after two years of daily use — the thing our previous supplier could never get right. We have reordered four times at 1,000 pieces.
D*** R**, Managing Director, accessories brand, United Kingdom
What sold us was being told our MOQ of 200 was too low for the tooling cost before we paid anything. They suggested 500, saving us from a first order that would have priced badly.
M** O**for, Founder, e-commerce accessories label, United States
We needed 60 corporate wallets in nine weeks for a client event. Samples were approved in five days, the shipment landed with eight days to spare, and the rigid boxes arrived without a single dent.
